The Ipswich Community Wind Band was inaugurated in 1992 as an offshoot of the Community light Orchestra (founded 1987). It was suggested that the Orchestra wind players form a small group to provide music where appropriate. Nine musicians volunteered and started practices in a member's home. One of these was ex army and became the first player/conductor. Eventually a venue for rehearsal was found in Saint Clements hospital Chapel Ipswich.
As the band enlarged and progressed it found subsequent musical directors who worked hard to improve the standard and our current Musical Director is Tom Rumbold who took over the reins from Mr Peter Gray. There are currently 26 players in the band who enjoy making music together and maintaining a happy social atmosphere.
